Pedro Rivera

Biography

Pedro Rivera, born on January 5, 1939 in Panama, is a narrative writer, poet and filmmaker. Among his poetry books are worth to mention Las voces del dolor que trajo el alba (1958), Panamá, incendio de sollozos (1959), Los pájaros regresan de la niebla (1969), Para hacer el amor con la ventana abierta (1989). His narrative and essays include a great number of tittles among which the most outstanding are Las huellas de mis pasos (1993), Todo sucedió mañana (1993), Crónicas apócrifas de Castilla de Oro (2005). He has received the Ricardo Miro prize several times in the genres of poetry, short story and essay. His films have been awarded at international film festivals (Havana, Tashkent, and Leipzig). He is director of the Experimental Group of the University Cinema (Grupo Experimental de Cine Universitario, GECU) of the Panama University. He is a member of the Superior Council of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.
